The purpose of the project was to create a robot capable of conveying 5 emotion reactions with electro-mechanical outputs by means of simple movements and sounds considering design thinking methods. In order to fulfil this goal, it has been designed and developed “Otto”, a stuffed octopus longing for its human attention. “Otto” was designed as an “emotion mate”. Otto is able to deduce user's mood owing to embedded the vocal and facial recognition by means of the analysis of sentences and tone of voice to mirror users emotions.
